William Smith is the head goaltender for the Black Blades. His supporting goalie is Peter Schwartz. Being selected in the 2005 SHL Draft, William would later become one of the league's greatest goaltenders, and the greatest goaltender in the Black Blades organization.
Over his career, William has accrued many accolades, playing a lot of the games as netminder for the Blades over its entirety. From the 2009-2010 Season to the 2013-2014 Season, William was close to nabbing five consecutive 30-win seasons, which no goalie has ever done. He currently has three 30-win seasons, beaten only by Buck Kampra who has four. William was also the 3rd fastest goaltender to record 200 wins, doing so in 314 games, behind Buck Kampra (305) and Jeremy Javielle (310).
William is also a winner of the Goliath Ironwall Trophy, which he won twice, during the 2010-2011 Season, and the 2013-2014 Season. His second win was known to be one of the most controversial awards in the SHL, many analysts and fans suggested Grant Martin had better all-around stats. This led to a battle between the Blades and the Astral Aeroes in the playoffs the same year.
In context of playoff recognition, William has also won the SHL Cup, which he did in the 2015-2016 Season, having been to the finals during the 2010-2011 Season and 2013-2014 Season, in which he lost 4-2 and 4-3 to the Mountain Flyers and Astral Aeroes respectively. In the 2015-2016 Season, William was nominated for his third Goliath Ironwall Trophy, but lost to Buck Kampra in voting.
During the 2015-2016 Season, William signed a six-year extension, expiring in the 2021-2022 Season. Will is credited as one of the most successful goaltenders in the league, and has a RAT of 95, making him tied for the third highest rated goalie in the league, behind Eamon Thael (95), Baron Godqvist (96), and Buck Kampra (96).
